MLA Looks to Bury Card Check Before It Resurfaces
May 28, 2009

Buoyed by last year’s defeat of the so-called "Employee Free Choice Act", the MLA is taking proactive steps to cut it off before it can reestablish momentum on Capitol Hill. The bill would eliminate the democratic secret ballot process currently used for unionization, and replace it with signature cards. The MLA is reaching out to Massachusetts Congressmen and Senators in the hopes that they and their colleagues will defeat this bill before unions can push it through Congress. The MLA's efforts have already seen results, as key Sens. Arlen Specter (D-PA), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) recently switched their positions and would now vote against the measure. Vice President Joseph Biden recently offered his strong endorsement of card check.
