Legislator Spotlight: State Senator Bruce Tarr
August 19, 2009
In addition to its well-known fishing history, Cape Ann boasts some of the most dramatic seaside vistas in Massachusetts. It is no wonder that the region attracts so many visitors to its beaches, restaurants, museums and, of course, its many lodging establishments. State Senator Bruce Tarr (R-First Essex and Middlesex) has dedicated his career to keeping his district’s tourism industry thriving.
Raised in Gloucester, Senator Tarr’s career has been tied closely to the growth of the North Shore and Cape Ann. A long-time advocate for the sustainable development of the Cape Ann coastal region, Senator Tarr’s 19 years of public service in the State House have allowed him to forge close ties with the region’s economic leaders, organizations dedicated to the preservation of the area’s natural resources and, of course, the myriad of hotels, motels, inns and B&Bs that span his district. He is a senior member of a number of legislative Committees of interest to hospitality, both in his district and across Massachusetts, including the Senate Committee on Ways and Means, the Joint Committee on Natural Resources and the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies.
Throughout his career, the Senator from Gloucester has proven a strong friend and legislative ally to the tourism and hospitality industry, exemplified by his 2006 receipt of a Leadership Award from the North of Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, one of many award he has received during his legislative tenure.
