Government Affairs
The Massachusetts Lodging Association (MLA) represents lodging properties and related companies at the local, state and federal levels. MLA has a lobbyist who monitors bills, attends hearings and stays in contact with legislators and state officers. By retaining a lobbyist and lawyer specializing in hospitality law, the MLA offers its members representation and guidance often too costly for most individual properties.
The MLA is also affiliated with the American Hotel & Lodging Association which is based in Washington D.C. AH&LA concentrates on federal legislation and regulatory efforts with input from the state associations.
MLA’s legislature direction comes from the Board of Directors and the Government Affairs Committee. MLA staff keeps the membership informed of ongoing legislative and regulative efforts.

Political Action Committee (MLA-PAC)

The MLA-PAC raises money in support of legislators who are advocates of the lodging and tourism industries in Massachusetts.

Legislative Action Summit

MLA Staff, Board of Directors and members travel to Washington D.C. to attend briefings, learn about pressing issues facing the industry on a national level and meet with members of both the House and the Senate.

MLA Liaisons

The MLA liaises with AH&LA in a number of issues including Short Term Rentals, H2B, OTC’s and other issues.

Plenty of opportunities exist for members to get involved in Government Affairs! The MLA Government Affairs Committee meets on a regular basis throughout the year and opportunities for members to participate in these meetings are encouraged. MLA also frequently asks its members to write or email their legislators on a variety of issues directly impacting their business.
