​ServSafe® is a certification program that recognized by the National Restaurant Association that protects both the employee and customer. ServSafe® certifications are designed to educate food service workers about preventing foodborne illness and food allergies.

There are a number of certifications available:
  • A ServSafe® Manager Certification verifies that a manager or person-in-charge has sufficient food safety knowledge to protect the public from foodborne illness. Individuals that successfully pass the 90-question, multiple-choice exam will receive a ServSafe® Manager Certification and wallet card.
The National Restaurant Association recognizes the ServSafe® Food Protection Manager Certification for a five-year period.
  • Additional certifications include ServSafe® Alcohol, ServSafe® Allergens and ServSafe® Food Handler Certificates and are recognized for a three-year period.
Many hotels, restaurants and venues in Massachusetts assist their employees with the certification process with training on property. 

However, training is also available and conducted throughout the Commonwealth and online classes are also available.  For information on classes not associated with a property, please see below:
